A faithful reproduction of a Lombard trumeau dating from the past century but inspired by a style popular during the early 1700s. The original furniture belongs to a private villa most likely owned by a powerful family. The notable skill of the craftsman is evident in the particular workmanship seen in moulding the solid walnut wood and alternated with larch wood veneered in walnut burl. The application of walnut mouldings along the surface of the secretary desk makes the professionalism of the cabinetmaker even more notable. Moreover, it should be remembered that he created this piece of furniture without using any special tools. The art demonstrated in furniture like this one all lies in the manual skills of the craftsman, who was capable of creating authentic monuments using simple and often rudimentary tools. Another detail worthy of note is the scroll-shaped foot, or «a zoccolo di capra» – or goat hoof – that connects to the sloping shoulder of the base. The trumeau was polished entirely by hand with the use of shellac. If the client prefers, the ornamental mouldings found on all the trumeau can be highlighted with ebonization as they were in the past. As we are well aware of the importance of this piece, we would be pleased to offer any type of information and meet your requests.
