In our “lamps” section you will be able to admire a vast collection of lighting made completely by hand by our Italian craftsmen. The structure of our chandeliers is made using a particular process called «wiredrawing».

This technique is applied to many metals, including iron, as is in our case. Later, the structure in drawn iron is embellished by galvanising it in 24kt gold.

Our craftsmen generally use different varieties of crystals, including: Swarovski Crystal, Asfour Crystal and Spectra Crystal. The pendants of our chandeliers are in Asfour Crystal, a very high-quality crystal that is obtained through the processing of glass with some chemical products inside.

Quartz sand, or more commonly known as silica sand, is the main material used to make glass. In order to obtain the latter, is it necessary to bring the silica sand to a very high temperature, so that when it melts, it coagulates into a paste. Once cooled and solidified, we have obtained glass. The lead oxide is the chemical component that adds sparkle to the glass and turns it into crystal.

All qualities of crystal contain 30% lead oxide, which grants it the luminosity and refraction of light that enables it so create the vibrant rainbow effect.

At the moment of shipping, the crystal pendants will be removed from the structure of our chandeliers. They will be divided among boxes, which will be labelled by an article reference number to be used for reassembling the chandelier according to the instructions provided.

Some historic notes about crystal chandeliers. During the XVI century Italian aristocracy was the first to decorate chandeliers with pendants made of rock crystal, a semiprecious stone that refracts large amounts of light and for this reason is very costly. Thanks to the enormous popularity in using these crystals, for economic reasons it became necessary to replace rock crystals with another material that costs less but at the same time would be capable of reflecting light to gain a certain level of luminosity. Thanks to the discovery of the Bohemian crystal in the XVIII century, it was possible to replace the rock crystal with a material that was less costly but offered the same performance.

Our collection of chandeliers is in “Maria Teresa” style, a name used since 1743 when some Bohemian craftsmen combined their talents with the artistic efficiency of Venetian masters to build a chandelier in honour of the Empress Maria Theresa of Austria. This gave rise to a line of chandeliers featuring a gold-coloured structure and elements consisting of drop-shaped crystals.
