Reproduction of «Portrait of Maria de Medici» by Frans Pourbus the Younger
Location: private collection, Stockholm
Era: early XVII century
Information: Frans Pourbus the Younger, of Flemish origins, was referred to in this way because he was the son of Frans the Elder. Frans was a famous portrait artist who worked for the most prestigious European courts. His style was a concentrate of his father’s influence and his studies of other portrait artists, above all Spanish ones. Maria de Medici was one of the best-known faces of that period who had the honour of sitting for this young artist.
The lime wood frame is lacquered black with profiles in gold leaf. It has undergone considerable ageing that has left it very “ruined”.
Both portraits are sold together.
