Information: Philips Wouwerman was a Dutch artist famous for his artistic production that was considered to be eclectic. His paintings depicted scenes of daily life in rural landscapes. Horses, as we can see from this painting, were one of his favourite subjects. In the foreground we can see a group of farmers most likely intent on taming colts.
The frame is the original one from the early 1800s in lime wood. The carvings in the corners are in plaster. The frame was reconstructed and the gilding was touched up.
