Original writing desk dating from the end of the nineteenth century, form the Veneto region. The main feature of the years between 1870 and 1890 can be identified with the word ”confusion”. The chaos of this area was due to the fact that all the previous stylistic movements were resumed and taken back. Such time period is called Historicism or Eclecticism.
The writing desk is the perfect example of such movements because it presents the characterizing mixing of different stylistic elements such as the turning (Neo-baroque), the carved edge of the table’s panel (Neoclassicism). The writing desk’s structure has been made with solid walnut. The front part presents a flap with a leather panel which contains a unique and spacious compartment. The shelf – that reminds of a colonnade – contains two small drawers divided by a fake one with an adjustable panel. Probably, the fake drawer was originally used to lay nibs and inkwell.
