Antique Lombard Chest Converted into a Sideboard
Antique Lombard Chest Transformed into a Sideboard, Late 17th Century
This rare Lombard chest, dating from the late 17th century, has been masterfully transformed into a sideboard by a skilled cabinetmaker. The central body features simple, balanced moldings, characteristic of the classical style of the second half of the 1600s. The structure itself is crafted entirely from solid Italian walnut.
During restoration, turned legs connected by shaped stretchers were added, seamlessly preserving the character of the original piece. Of particular note are the inlaid decorations of floral motifs and birds, a tribute to the Lombard Renaissance tradition of fine marquetry.
The current color, enriched by centuries of natural patina and oxidation, highlights both the walnut’s warm grain and the subtle contrasts of the three woods used in the inlay: walnut, cherry, and maple.
Upon request, the finish can be customized in blond, medium, or dark walnut tones, making this sideboard adaptable to a variety of interiors and styles.
