Exclusive sideboard in 1600s style, obtained from the transformation of a church pulpit. It was recovered during the restoration of a church in the region of Lombardy. To build this sideboard, the sides and the front parts of the pulpit were used. The remaining parts, like the top and the back, were built with old wood of the same essence as that of the pulpit. The sideboard is in Italian walnut. The frieze that we see along the two rounded corners and the two doors were carved by hand. The certainty that the sideboard originated from an old church pulpit comes from the carving of an ear of grain, which is a very important symbol in the Christian religion. Indeed, in religious symbolism, the ear represents the Eucharist and the breaking of bread at the Last Supper. Undoubtedly, this is a sideboard brimming with history and unanswerable questions. We do not know, for example, why the original pulpit was replaced by another pulpit. Mostly likely, according to some canonical studies, we can deduce that the reason for this decision was dictated by the simplification of ecclesiastical furnishings proposed in the past by the Church when it was still seeking to attain stability between the faithful and modern States.
Certainly, the decision to simplify ecclesiastical furnishings in less important and smaller churches was dictated by the fact that the Church endeavored to be increasingly closer to its faithful. A spiritual and emotional closeness that also required a visual representation. Obviously, these are all suppositions and we have no actual documentation to confirm what the reasons were. This sideboard, however, is definitely one of a kind. One curious feature: inside the sideboard there are small secret spaces that will be revealed only to the buyer.
