A simple chest that can be dated to the mid-XVII century of provincial or rustic origins, as suggested by the absence of decorative details. The two frontal rhombuses, set in squares, are the only decorative elements we find, but their smooth and geometric form confirms the humble origins of the first owner. The chest, of Lombard origins, presents an exterior structure in solid walnut, while the interior, bottom, and back are in solid chestnut wood. During the restoration a moulding and feet were added, which were previously inexistent. The parts added were made of walnut.
One particular curiosity of the past to know on chests and their common usage: they were usually intended for the storage of the trousseau that had to be kept protected from rodents and insects. In order to do so, the closure between the cover and the body below it had to fit essentially perfectly. Along the sides there are two iron handles.
