An extremely valuable drop-leaf chest of drawers  from the late XVII century in the zone of Belluno (region of Veneto). This chest of drawers presents some elements that were integrated during its restoration. The moulding and the feet were recovered from an antique chest of little artistic value and then adapted to this chest of drawers. The capacity of the craftsman is to know how to enhance what at first glance may seem impossible to recover and then succeed in bringing it back to life with a new look.

Above we defined this chest of drawers as “extremely valuable” because it is enriched by the presence of ivory and ebony inlays. The technique of inlaying comprises preparing shapes cut into a surface, in this case a walnut panel, and then filling it with a material that can be wood or another precious hard material. The use of valuable materials like mother-of-pearl, silver, and semi-precious stones began during the second half of the XV century, the wonderful Renaissance period. The chest of drawers holds three spacious drawers and a drop leaf that also works as a faux drawer. The precious ebony and ivory inlays are stunning, making it possible to imagine, moreover, the expertise and patience of the inlayer who created this authentic work of art. Fully aware of the majesty of this piece, we will be happy to provide further information and photographs to those who may be interested.
