Information: Guardi began painting views of Venice when the greatest exponent of the vedutista or landscape movement, Canaletto, was temporarily in London. His depictions of the city of Venice were a prelude to the romantic landscape as Guardi often conveyed in the landscape itself the emotions and moods he was feeling while painting the work.
The frame is in hand-carved lime wood. The finish is in slightly antiqued gold leaf.
