Reproduction of «Flowers and fruit» by Anonymous
Frame: The frames, in hand-carved lime wood, are lacquered in gold leaf.
Location: Private collection, Piacenza (Italy)
Era: 800
These two paintings represent a subject very common in paintings of all eras. Indeed, flowers are a subject depicted by many artists. Romanticism was a literary, cultural, and pictorial movement born in Germany towards the end of the 1700. It then expanded throughout Europe. For Romantics every man must be free to think and free to create works of art without any academic restrictions. Finally, the romantic artist was no longer required to work to satisfy the whim of a wealthy patron, but created, interpreted, and painted whatever he wanted. It is for this reason that one of the first paintings were those depicting nature, so landscapes, the view of a panorama, and natural subjects.
