Reproduction of «Saskia as Flora» by Rembrandt
Location: Museo Hermitage, Saint Petersburg
Era: 1634
Information: Rembrandt had always been attracted by mythology and its protagonists. In this work he portrayed Flora, goddess of the flowers and springtime (as well the protector of prostitutes). She was a beloved subject amongst the bourgeoisie at that time. Recent critics, after years of studies, tend to identify female figures painted by Rembrandt with his wife Saskia, in this case modelling as Flora. The analysis of other similar works brought critics to develop this theory.
