Reproduction of «Portrait of Eleonora da Toledo» by Alessandro Allori
Location: Museo di Palazzo Vecchio, Florence
Era: XVI century
Information: the artist depicts Eleonora, Duchess of Toledo and wife of Cosimo de’ Medici, in a portrait that shows her as a young woman. As a noblewoman, Eleonora is portrayed wearing luxurious attire produced using a special sixteenth-century technique. Eleonora shared with her husband a passion for fabrics and we can see the result of this penchant in her portrait. The dress, which is sufficiently sumptuous, is adorned with necklaces with precious gemstones. The background that frames the Duchess’s face is unique, as she was probably portrayed in front of a curtain or a damask-lined wall.
The lime wood frame presents a type of workmanship that involved thick canes and bamboo.
It dates back to the early XX century.
