A beautiful chest dating to the late 1600s from the region of Lombardy. In this chest we note the presence of the Baroque style that influenced nearly all the Italian regions during early XVII century. The peculiarity of this style lies above all in the exaggerated use of decorative elements: the more elaborate they were the more they were considered in keeping with the canons of Baroque-like style. On the front of the chest we can see a sumptuous carving that encircles a central coat-of-arms, probably the symbol of the noble family that owned this chest.

The feet, in the shape of lion’s claws, are typical of the 1500s. Another clue that suggests the noble origins of the chest is the quality walnut used in its construction. Along the sides there are two iron handles, used perhaps to transport the chest. The history preserved in this antique piece of furniture leaves ample opportunity to fantasize on its distant past.
