This antique Venetian chest dating to the 1600s is made in fruitwood. The chest has been carefully and professionally restored in its entirety. The style of the furniture is very simple and austere, typical of the area of its origins and its intended use at the time. The chest, or trunk, was in fact used in family homes to store provisions or goods that were deemed precious. This is why many chests were equipped with a lock and heavy keys in wrought iron: they were intended to keep and protect the goods from sly hands. Given the simplicity of the shape, it is very likely that this chest belonged to a family of farmers.
The eagle applied to the front of the chest was handmade in wrought iron, but of more recent production. Every detail of the animal was worked and welded by hand.
We chose a neutral finish to further enhance both the decorative element in antique iron as well as the characteristics of time-worn wood.
