Reproduction of «Madonna con Bambin Gesù», inspired by the works of the Venetian artist Carlo Trivelli of 1495. This work depicts the Virgin in rich and opulent garments while holding the Infant Jesus. The detail of the red shoes worn by Jesus is outstanding. The red «slippers», originally in velvet or silk, were special footwear worn by Popes in their private apartments.
The color red is attributed to the love of God for humanity and recalls the liturgical moment of the Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit descends upon the Apostles. The cherries in the background bring to mind the Passion of Christ, also because iconographically the vermilion red color recalls the blood that Jesus shed for man’s redemption, while the cherry stone refers to the wood of the cross.
Cardinals are lovely birds that were considered companions during the Renaissance and symbolize Jesus’s childhood as represented in this work.
