Information: the author of this work, of Flemish origins, had perfected his style over the years he spent in Rome and Naples, where he came into contact with the art of Caravaggio. The artist, in reproducing on canvas the moment of conviviality, visually represents the five senses. The personages are depicted in luxurious attire and this suggests that the scene portrays people of high society. The five senses- taste, smell, hearing, touch, and sight – are represented by the gestures and objects of the nine personages in the painting.
The frame, in lime wood, dates back to the mid-XX century. The colour and shape of the frame perfectly complements the style and polychromatic tones of the painting.
