A chest representing the classic Lombard style that was hugely popular during the early XVII century, but reproduced only a century later. The frontal and side exterior of the chest was built using Italian walnut, while the bottom and back were constructed in spruce. The façade bears an abstract ornamental hand carving done with rudimentary tools. The feet supporting the chest, defined as bracketed feet, were added at a later date.
During the restoration, they were missing and without them the chest was very unstable. Along the moulding of the drop there is a secret drawer useful for hiding valuables. On the two smaller sides of the chest there are two iron handles, suggesting that one of the many functions this piece might have served in the past was perhaps a trunk used for moving house. We cannot know for certain, but it is easy to imagine.
