A simple chest dating to the late 1600s from Emilia with strong stylistic elements of Tuscan influence. The structure of the chest is in quality walnut and, unlike the other chests used above all to contain dowries, its sturdiness seems to suggest that it was used as a safe for valuables. The presence of the lock also tends to confirm this use. Probably it was used to contain money or precious materials that had to be kept out of the hands of indiscreet individuals. On the front of the chest we can admire some cherry wood inlays that were intended to embellish the austere air of this piece. The hand-carved feet were added successively during a restoration intervention.

Along the sides there are two wrought iron handles, a further element that confirms with added certainty that the chest was originally used as a “safe”.
