Elegant chest of drawers in eighteenth-century Venetian style, with a unique front thanks to the curved line interrupted by the barrel-shaped shoulder that joins with the horizontally and vertically shaped sides. In this case the expertise of the cabinetmaker is highlighted by his cutting of the 3mm-thick chestnut and walnut sheets that he then used to decorate the entire surface of this piece. Nowadays it is very difficult, if not nearly impossible, to find the same excellence of workmanship and details in other similar pieces. Unfortunately the art of applying briarwood is disappearing in Italy because it requires a very long procedure encompassing several steps. The apron-shaped drop is the setting for a hand-carved shell in solid walnut in the centre. The finish is in shellac that has been patiently applied by expert polishers.
NB: the briarwood used to cover the structure of the furniture is found in nature, as it is a totally natural element. It is therefore our duty to specify that the forms and motifs that the briarwood forms on the surface of this piece will vary from one to another. This handmade attribute will make your furniture one of a kind in the world. For more information, please feel free to contact us. We will be pleased to provide you with a description of how this antique decorative technique is carried out.
