Sideboard that has been reproduce following the stylistic criteria of the early seventeenth century, the time period known as the transition era from Renaissance to Baroque. The artisan’s aim was to create a discontinuity on the front part of the sideboard using a panel with engravings from the twentieth century in the central door, while on the two side doors adorned stained glasses were used. The manufacturing of stained glass is a process that was developed in the gothic period during the Middle Ages, when the use of glasses was needed to let the light in the European cathedrals.
Indeed, still to this day this specific kind of glass manufacture is often referred as “cathedral glass”.
This artifact is a unique peace and was made with solid American walnut.
The polisher was able to recreate a “worn out effect” thanks to his experience and the use of specific instruments such as natural soil, patinas and shellac.
