An elegant sideboard from the seventeenth-century in Tuscan style. Unfortunately this sideboard suffered extensive damage during the famous flood of 1966 when the Arno River in Florence overflowed its banks. When it was found, the sideboard was in terrible condition and only thanks to an intense and extensive restoration was it possible to save it. The damaged parts were replaced, always using old wood, while the colour and the decoration were restored and nearly completely recreated. The decorator demonstrated his skills during the restoration intervention because he maintained the same pictorial technique that the sideboard manifested before the water damage. By taking into careful consideration the coloured parts that survived the flooding, the lacquerer was able to adapt the original sideboard to the forced restoration it had to undergo.

The sideboard consists of two front doors and is divided into two compartments inside. The top was decorated with a particular technique that was very popular in the past and reproduces the visual effect of marble in wood. Let’s not forget that Florence was, and still is, one of the major Italian cities of art, history, and the search for beauty. We do not know the original owners of this sideboard, but we can guarantee that it is brimming with memories and Italian history. Please feel free to contact us for any further information.
