Elegant cabinet in nineteenth-century Italian Empire style. The cabinet, also called a secretaire, was very in fashion in noble homes during the 1500s in Florence. It was considered a luxury piece as it was used for studying. Indeed, the cabinet was used as a small study area and for this reason was not a piece of furniture accessible to everyone. The cabinet herein consists of a body in the form of a parallelepiped with a drop leaf. Inside there is a series of small drawers on top of each other and alternating with two empty compartments.

The master cabinetmaker who produced the cabinet did not follow the stylistic features dictated during the era, but decided to soften the rigid structure by applying sheets of Italian walnut in a four-quarters herringbone pattern outlined by a filleting in rosewood on all three visible sides. The polisher succeeded in exalting the tone of the walnut, off-setting some wooden elements with the colour of the ebony. On request, it is possible to remove the ebony coloured finish and make the walnut colouring uniform.
